The Idea

We, the founders, went to an organic grocery store in Auckland sometime in January 2021 just to have a look around.

We stumbled upon spices packaged in plastic jars which were selling almost half the quantity that we’re currently providing for eight or nine dollars and we thought,hang on, what’s going on here?

We had the benefit of one of us having family in India in the spice trade for over 30 years and we thought the quality of the spices were also average at best.

We realised there was an opportunity in the market where we could make use of our spice contacts, plug the gap in the market to bring the best spices from India (and other countries) to New Zealand and make them accessible and affordable for everyone.

We just had to put in the work to make it happen.

The Sourcing

We wanted to make sure that we source the freshest and highest quality spices for our customers and so we spent around 12 months finalising our suppliers after sampling different varieties of spices from different regions, across India and other countries. We source our spices from locations where farmers specialise in harvesting each spice due to conducive climate conditions including ensuring the best farming and processing methods. In short, we go where the quality is.

Our spices are all single origin, meaning each spice is from a single location to ensure the spice is consistently the highest quality across multiple batches. We have also sourced the highest quality organic spices which we have certified organic with BioGro New Zealand. We continue to put in work to improve the quality of our spices.

FOUNDERS


Vish (left) is originally from India and has family there in the spice trade. He is the guy that had the ‘Aha’ moment at the Organic Grocery store in Auckland in 2021 and is our ideas man. This guy can come up with 20 different business ideas in one day! Then he leaves the implementation of those ideas to Keyur. Jokes aside, Vish is hugely creative and was responsible for creating the beautiful labels that you see on our products today and for how our website looks. He spent 12 months sourcing the highest quality spices for you and is incredibly passionate about providing our customers with the very best we have to offer.



Keyur (right) is the commercial and ‘business setup’ guy. He is a Chartered Accountant and previously worked for Deloitte in Wellington and then for Tāmaki Regeneration Company in Auckland for over 8 years. After quitting his job, Keyur obtained the funding for the business and is responsible for ensuring the operations meet food regulations, import requirements, can be scaled up and that the business can deliver our products to customers quickly and efficiently.
