Lakadong turmeric is a type of turmeric variety that is grown in the Jaintia Hills of the Indian state of Meghalaya.
It is known for its highest curcumin content in the world roughly between 9% - 12% compared to normal turmeric which contains roughly 3%- 4%. This gives it a strong, pungent flavor and a deep, rich yellow color. It is considered the best turmeric in the world.
Lakadong turmeric is widely used in cooking in South Asian cuisine. It is used to add flavor and color to dishes such as curries, rice dishes and in spice blends. Â
